Surprise! Reworked the site a little to get rid of the pop ups...there is still one but it only show in the background.....I am doing my best.

Photo Section updated with images from your latest practice session.

Next Practice Session tomorrow 11pm eastern on the VARO Server

Saturday, December 21, 2002

Sorry for the server issues we have an alternate server setup all pilots check you e-mail for the correct address
Updates to VARO:
I haev uploaded a new installer for the KRYN course this is the final version of KRYN and the basis for the next set of courses. I am currently working on an undate for the VARO Reno Racer to add all the custom aircraft and get us ready for the 2003 racing season.

The server is online and going to be most of the day as much as much as I can anyway. If you check the status page and it doesn't show up that means I have the server down. We will be holding a practice session tonight at 10pm Eastern Time. We will be running laps in the biplanes and the jet primarily.

Hope to see everyone there

Tuesday, December 17, 2002

Biplane/F1 course finished for KRYN. I have build the Biplane Formula 1 course and added it to the download section. You need to have the previous version of the VARO KRYN Scenery for it to work since it is and Add on. For the most part all new VARO Courses will work this way. They will all use the same textures so they will all be considered addons.

Testing Continues on the Biplanes and the Jet.

Final Note
More Pilot Practice this weekend. Hopefully we can get some Biplane practice in

Updates to Website.
I said it was coming look at the new Racing Classes page to see all the classes VARO will be running at some point this season
The Semester is over!

I am done with my course work for the semester so that means more time for VARO here is a brief timeline of what I plan to work on in the next few months

1. Finish Phase 1 of VARO Race Management Program
2. Create Biplane/F1 course at KRYN
3. Create February Course
4. Release selected Biplane and Jet aircraft
5. Revise Race Format.

I am thinking of Revising the Race Format a little. Instead of having 1 race a month I am thinking that Qualifying should be thrown out and we should have heat races the day of the race. To decide the Gold,Silver, and Bronze positions. Heat positions would be random and would be assigned prior to racing. We would then have a race every two weeks. I thnk that we could race Unlimiteds and Jet the second week of the month and then Biplane and F-1 at the end of the month. I have BIplanes and a L-39 selected we need to make skins for them and they will be ready.

Final Note.
I am now involved in something that I think is going to be cool.
Check out the link below for more information a different way to FS

KRYN Scenery Update
With the feedback of a couple pilots I have worked some improvements into the KRYN Racecourse.

Release Notes 1.05
---Added more pylons in between corners to help with visibility
---Fixed Elevation of some pylons to put them on the ground
---You can now turn the guide off by changeing your scenery complexity. To have them on use the "normal" setting. To leave the off use the "sparse" or "very sparse"
---Added Yellow Guide the goes out to Scatter Pylon. The scatter pylon is only used to line up for an airstart. Once you have started you can simply ignore this guide
Get the Scenery on the downloads page

Hope to see everyone at Pylon School

Aircraft Draft andRace Operations Officer
Great news about the practice that what I like to see!

Aircraft Draft, This weekend VARO will be holding its a draft for pilots to select there aircraft for the 2003 VARO season. This is how this works. On Friday I will start accepting selections for Aircraft. The order will be identical to the roster order. What you need to do is send me an e-mail that contains the following.

1.VARO Callsign
2.Race Number
3.Primary Selelction
4.Second Selection
5.Third Selection

Send that to Me. I will then make the selection based on rank and number.

Race Operations. I am still in need of a Race Operations Officer. I plan to nominate one by Thursday if I have no volunteers. I will then work my way through the mailing list till I find someone. Remember Offices aren't forever they are up for re-election every year. During the off season. So you are not neccessarly stuck in the office forever.

Finally I would like to stop some rumors that seem to be surfacing about something happening to VARO. VARO is not going anywhere in the sense of changeing. We may move to a better webhost but VARO will not change. I am not going anywhere and neither are the VARO Board Officers. We are all didicated to creating a fun and realistic air racing organization. We are not a league we are here to promote the Sport of Online Air Racing. Above all its about having fun and not complicateing things with complicated rules, regulations, and procedures. I created VARO to fill the void in the Online Flight Sim community and to have fun. The only way VARO will ever go away is when it stops being fun. Pass the word VARO is here to stay through thick and thing. We are here for the pilot. We are here for air racing. Above all we are here to enjoy the sport and have fun.

Report : 12-9-02 Practice Session at Kryn

Well, another fine evening of racing was had by VARO members Flatline ( our new VARO Vice
President and all around " racer to beat " ), Baron ( PRO ), Griff, and myself, Roscoe ( CSO ).

Three complete races were held Monday evening with fast laps, close racing, and no crashes.
Air starts were used for the start of all three races and went very well. In the first heat, Baron
got out in front at the start and stayed there the entire race. Flatline was hot on his tail but
there was nothing that either Flatline or I could do to catch him. He was just fast that race.
During the third race of the evening, Griff decided to watch from the start finish line and
witnessed the air start first hand. The air start in Griffs words was " awesome " !
Roscoe got out in front at the start this time and even though Baron was hot on his tail the
entire race, Roscoe was flying a low and tight line and held Baron and Flatline off to win
the race. We thenall got together at the home pylon for a few pics and called it a night
at that point.

Roger Wico was used again and worked great. VARO will be using Roger Wilco as the main
source of communication between the Air Bosses and the pilots, so if you plan on racing
you'll need RW. Not to repeat what Baron has said but do yourself a favor and get yourself an
inexpensive pair of headphones with a microphone and download Roger Wilco. If you think
you'll be able to fly 400mph, 20 feet off the ground and type messages at the same time,
you really need to think again.

Download Roger Wilco Here ( it's a freebee )

And be sure to spend the extra time to set it up correctly. There are help files included to guide
you thru setting up the microphone recording levels and sound levels. If you take the time
you wont be dissappointed and it will definetly enhance your online airracing experience !

As Construction Support Officer I can tell you that the stable of Formula 1 racers is coming
along nicely and will available in the near future. There other things happening also but I won't let
that cat out of the bag just yet!

Till Next Time

i've hooked roscoe up with a template for the reno mustang so we should be seeing some great repaints from him very soon.

meantime, if there's anything i can do to help; technical questions, info, rules, whatever... please let me know.

Yet another fun session of racing!!!! Sun night left us with the sounds of merlins in our dreams!!! Good people, airplanes, and racing!!!!
The roster looked something like this: Roscoe (hosting and leading in a GREAT air start), flatline (kickingeveryones butt), 55lido(don't ask, but don't EVEN THINK OF PASSING HIM), and my self Baron (with no fewer than two full on crashes during the two races). It was still a great time!
Heya, we want you to play!!! No matter what your simming level, we're here to have a good time!!! (Kinda hard not to with easy going people like this..).
This gets to be the tough part....
PLZ GO BUY A CHEAP HEADSET W/A MIC (got mine for $9.99), then download the free version of Roger Wilco. After tonights session, I'm convinced it's the least expensive addon you can purchase (or add to your wish list)to further your racing experience!
Here's a quick tip for you perfectionists (if you didn't already know), to close and open the radiator door on the mustang, here's the commands: close CTRL+SHIFT+C...open CTRL+SHIFT+V...(I think you have to hit them three times each) that's the tip of the day!

'till next time (you know),
Baron

Friday, December 06, 2002

OK all you airracers, get ready for some new announcements!!! (Kan't spill beans yet, but YOU'LL LIKE IT)!!!
Also, there's a bunch of new planes in the wings (grin), just waiting for final approval. So keep in touch!
In addition, feel free to post a message with future ideas....we accept anything you have to offer!!!
We still need airport locations for new race courses, so if your home town feild looks good, let us know!!!
'till next time, (you know),

Update : Server Link Updated

There is a new link to go to the server page. In the navigation sidebar, all the way at the bottom, just under the forum link, you'll see a VARO logo. On my PC it is barely visable, but once you know it's there, you'll have no problem finding it. Just click on it and the server info page will appear.

Any questions, email me. dkh7d108@comcast.net

Report : Turkey Day Unscheduled Practice Session at KRYN

An unscheduled practice session was held at the KRYN course at 12 midnight Thanksgiving Day.
We had a good turnout as several racers showed up to participate including myself, Baron, Sryth,
Griff, and Magsmatty. We had a couple of good heats. Baron was very fast setting a blistering pace.
We also worked on the starting formation procedures and think we have a pretty good method to
keep the racers close and tight at the start Some racers were having trouble so here is the method
we used last evening.

1. Make sure your " autopilot lock " box is checked. You will find this in
flights / multiplayer / settings.

2. Activate the Autopliot by bringing up your radio stack and selecting
autopilot or by pressing Z

3. You need to target the aircraft to follow, to do that hit ctrl / shift / t.
While holding ctrl / shift, tap the t key and it will cycle thru the available
aircraft for targeting, just stop when you have the aircraft selected that you
want to follow. You will see the pilots name in the upper right hand corner
of the flight sim window.

4. Hit ctrl / shift / f and you will immediatly be 200 yards off the tail of the
racer you have targeted. Holding all three keys down will keep you there. After
adjusting your speed to match the aircraft you're following, most times you can
release the keys and stay with your targeted racer. If you find yourself passing
your targeted racer or falling behind, then just hit ctrl / shift / f again to put you
back 200 yards behind your targeted racer once again.

Hope this helps.

VARO Board member announcements

Baron has be named Public Relations Officer. Baron has been on a posting tirade, Including the XAR site. and a slew of others.
Baron and all Varo Board Officers will get access to post news on this news page.

I am still in need of a the 3 other officers. If I don't have volunteers I will start asking people I think are qualified.

VARO turns 1. Look on the Bylaws page for our Birthday

ATTENTION PILOTS
Make sure you read the bylaws page. Every Pilot is required to complete a pylon test. I am serious about this, its not hard but I want to make sure everyone knows the course well enough to be competitive. There are a couple of ways to do the test see bylaws page for details.

Welcome to the NEW and Improved home of VARO

Like the new Diggs?
New Pylon Design version 3
I would like to apologize fore the additional popup add on the site now. To keep VARO free we have to deal with some inconviences. I changed the add type to make way for the new frames site I am building. It will be more efficient and have a better Air Racing theme. Again I apologize for the inconvience. I am still in need of some volunteers for officers. I will announce the officers and update the bylaws soon.

Monday, November 25, 2002

You have asked for it now here it is. VARO Reno Racer pack 2. Just download this file then unzip into your Reno Mustang Aircraft folder make suer you overwrite the aircraft.cfg file and you are all set. This file is required to get all skins on the VARO Race Server.

The new website will be up around the first week of December. This weekend there will be no official event due to the holidays but the server will be up. I will be out of town but everyone is free to race to there hearts content.

VARO Board. I am working on a program to give some of VARO's governing to the pilots themselves. There will be a set of officers that will be responsible for certain aspects of VARO. Why amd I doing this do you ask? I am only 1 person and VARO is growing at a very fast pace. I would like to be able to work on other things for VARO and not have to worry about keeping things runnnig. The Board will consist of probably 3 to 4 people. I will oversee the Board of course. If you are interested in taking a more active role in VARO please e-mail me and tell me what you think you can contribute to VARO.

As always e-mail me with any problems or conerns. You can also msg me through AIM Screen Name AgentSryth

Also I am looking for suggestions for race times. The races will be held on saturday and sunday. Finally for those of you participating in VARO we will have a "Aircraft Draft" soon so that we can asign aircraft to individual pilots(for unlimted only). VARO Server Online

Roger Wilco channel is VARO Race Server password Varo. I am going to let the server run itself tonigtht I haven't had enough sleep at all today and can barely stay awake to write this. I will leave the server up until I get up again. Enjoy Everyone.
Big News! I have a pre-alpha version of the VARO Race Management Software ready for download. First however you need the newest version of FSUIPC which you can get by going to this site
http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html. The Other thing you need is the actual software which you can download below. It is very basic you can install it anywhere you want. To get it working you need to be running FS2k2 when you launch and the interface is pretty simple after that. I will remind you that this is a very early development version something work, most don't but now that I understand FSUIPC I can work on making the program function more efficently and less about the program interface.

VARO Race Management Software v.01 click link to download. Fell free to tell me what you think. I am interested in feed back about everything. I am especially looking for bugs in the stuff that works. I am also interested in things that needed to be added.

Keep posted and as always feel free to e-mail me about anything

Friday, November 15, 2002

A very help FSUIPC programer helped me with some function so the pre-alpha VARO Race Software should be done in a week or so. After I will release it for alpha testing. I have also been working on the actual Racing Season how the system will work(schedule, points, format). It looks like we will have 10 races with the 10 being the national championships. Also a while back I was told the the Official Reno course layout have been licensed to the "Xtreme Air Racing" developers if so then its off limits, but I also saw some scenery at avsim that replicates the course. If anyone knows what the official information is I am curious. I would like to hold the 10th and final race at Reno.

Scroll all way to the bottom of the page...We are now part of PIAR

Well as always

Good news...I have been working with the FSUIPC SDK and I think I have what I need to create a race management program. Its still in the testing stages but I am able to get what I need out of FS to make it work properly. For those of you who got onto the server last night can expect more sessions like that specially throught the week while I am at work. As for scenery and aircraft I need to take some time off Air Racing( only a few days) to get things with school back in order. I am going to be working on the program as much as possible.

Forumn Coming Soon!

If you have problems with the join section. Please wait a few days and I will have a download able entry for to be filled out and e-mailed.

Keep posted and as always feel free to e-mail me about anything

PS: If the Reno Racer Pack is to big let me know and I can split it up a bit.

Tuesday, November 12, 2002

More Updates. Ok I have built the Reno Racer pack I promised. It contains all the repaints for the Reno Racer Mustang. Thats 20 paint schemes for the aircraft. Now eveyone can have a different one. I have also built a scenery pack will all the scenery you need and created some flights to help you get to the right place. The join sesction should be working if you plan to race with VARO please fill out the form so I can get the series setup.

The VARO Server will be online starting around 9:30pm est tonight. It will be un-moderated while I am at work and could come down at any moment depending on what is happening on my computer. You can find the inof page here

Updates coming. I have start work on a simple race management tool that will help keep track of Laptimes, Laps and other things. I am also working on the new install instructions for the scenery. I have class today so it may not get done today but I will have it done soon. Now for some other things...After the test last night I decided to go ahead and start working toward a January 2003 start for the online racing series. So in the next few weeks there will be more tests and more scenery added. Soon I will have a joing form for all pilots interested in participateing to sign up.

Next Training Session. Saturday Nov 16 2002 time TBD
things happening in this test.

--Roger Wilco will be activated and ATC will be tested.
--More pylon tests(if you are having problems with the pylons at KRYN please e-mail me).
--Aircraft Tests...I plan to have the P51 ready will all skins from avsim and the folders structures so that everyone can see the proper skins.
--May test the race software depending on if its ready or not.

Keep posted and as always feel free to e-mail me about anything
Server a success, not neccessarly a complete success. We had 5 people log in and help us iron out some bugs.

Thanks guys for helping.

Now in the next few days the website will go through some updates. Which are as follows

--Improve install instructions and methods for scenery
--Create saved flights to make it easier to get to courses
--Fix "join" section
--Add Class Sections

We will be starting with the following classes
T-6 Texan
Formula 1
Biplane
--Add Aircraft to download section
--Add Schedule

Finally I am looking for someone that has knowledge in FSUIPC to help me with a race management program.Right now it is just and idea but I want to see how feasable it would be to do.
