VARO Scaling Back

Due to a lack interest of new pilots coming into VARO I will be scaling back the website. I know I have said this in the past many times but this time I think it will stay. We have had an excellent run since January but there just does not seem to be the interest or dedication in new pilots. So after Saturdays race the Winter Season will be put on hold while I decide what to do with things. I have also cut down the forum membership to the pilots who have been dedicated to VARO. As for the website it will go more into talking about overall airracing in Flight Sim along with having downloads for aircraft and software. For those of you who have contributed you are more that welcome to help me provide content for the new site. For pilots still interested stay in the forum and keep posting eventually the forum will become the VARO League center gone will be the mailing list and roster page all pilots that will be racing must be signed up there.

Special thanks to Maple One for brining VARO out of the dark ages with his excellent flight model design as well as his leadership and his hard dedicated work to VARO and our hobbyist efforts. I hope he continues to work with VARO to provide top notch aircraft for those who wish to fly fast.

Attention VARO Pilots!
Well another season is nearing completion and from the looks of it interest has faded considerably. So in the interest in saving some hard work and effort that could be used elsewhere instead of supporting another season I am asking all pilots that wish to race in a winter season to sign up in the forums. I have created a signify forum for each class and pilots wishing should post in the classes they want to race in. Please do not sign up unless you plan to attend at least half of the season which would start in December and run till February. If at less we get 4 pilots that are dedicated to a class we will not run races in that class until we have enough people.

What does this mean for VARO. Well the website and development will continue. We are one if not the only site solely dedicated to Flight Simulation air racing so the site will be here a while. Production on aircraft and software will continue but at a much slower pace. My main reason for making this decision is the fact that myself(Sryth) and specially MapleOne have put a lot of effort into not only building aircraft and software for VARO but running the races and that is a lot to do for dwindling numbers. So bottom line if you want to continue to race show for the last few races and sign up in the forum. If you don't that's fine VARO will always be here it may not change very much but it will always be here.

Deadline for pilot signups will be announced soon.

Sryth to take over has Race Organizer As of 9/29/04
Sryth will be resuming his Race Organizer duties from Maple One.

I would like to thank Maple One for all his hard work and dedication. Maple One is one of the main contributors the VARO Racer package and all the aircraft at VARO and has helped make VARO one of the best racing groups around. He will continue to work on the famous Pond Racer.

So with that out of the way I have a few announcements to make.

First due to a a family health issue I am going to be rescheduling the Short Course race that was set for 10/2 to be raced the following Friday 10/8. I am also going to be rescheduling the races on 10/9 to the following Friday 10/15. These changes will not effect the current the races on 10/16.

Second after the completion of the Fall season I will be performing a clean sweep of the VARO Board and Staff. We will be minimizing staff and the board since we are no longer in a strong development stage. New Staff will be appointed as needed as well the Board will be reduced to a 3 member group with The Race Organizer leading. All future rule changes and anything else that was originally proposed in the VARO Board section of the Forum will now be made available to the public. Finally the last part of the clean sweep I will be removing any pilot from the forum that has not posted in the last 6 months. Any pilot that was not a member then will not be removed. I will also be taking names out of the member database that have not participated in any races in the last season or any this season. Pilots that signed up during or after the last season will not be removed.

And finally, I am going to begin work on replacement visual models for the aircraft new to this season so we can get better control over there texturing. I will also be working on an improved version of the Transponder with more functionality as well as a built in course builder and possible telemetry tracking.

VARO News 092804
Sryth coming out of Retirement to fly remainder of Season.

After a short retirement Sryth, founder of VARO, is set to come out of retirement and race his F1 and T-6 aircraft this weekend. For those of you who haven't been active with VARO in a while this would be a good time to get back in action.

Enough about my news here is some new updates for VARO.Since my outside obligations have been rendered moot I am getting back into the development side of VARO, expect new aircraft and an updated version of the transponder with more race management tools included to make online racing easier.

Looking forward to next season....I am going to be taking suggestions on prizes for next season. Currently I am exploring giving the overall class winner a subscription to one of the Flight Sim magazines out there. We are also going to be opening the VARO Store very soon that will have all kinds of items with the VARO logo on them. If anyone has suggestions on prizes(mind the cost since we are running on a budget) please feel to post in the forum or send me and e-mail. Remember VARO is here for the Pilots and we are dedicated to bringing the best experience for the Virtual Race Pilot.

Attention All pilots!
In light of my recent job offer and subsequent loss of spare time to run and race with VARO. I have appointed Awolf and Maple One to direct the races that VARO will run. I asked these two pilots because they have done a lot for VARO and have always been there in practices and races. They also have the time to devote to running events that I do not. This does not mean the end for me I will be maintaining the website and helping Awolf and Maple One as much as I have time to do.

I have tried to make the best decisions for VARO and I feel that the current staff will do an excellent job moving VARO ahead into next season and beyond.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to e-mail me.

!Attention All VARO Pilots!
Sryth's Hangar(which includes VARO) will be offline starting wednesday(6/30/04). The news page and the forum will still be operation since they are hosted at different locations. I hope the have the website back up in a couple of days. During the downtime I am going to be making some upgrades to the site and organizing some things. If you need anything please feel free to e-mail Sryth. Also make sure to connect to the main splash page to get convienent links to the news page and the forum.

I apologize for any inconvience.

VARO News

Well its all over and Wombat scored the trifecta of VARO Air Racing. I would like to thank all pilots that attended any of the VARO races and I look forward to the future for VARO with the new pilots we having coming in. To both new and old pilots we got a lot of new stuff coming your way in the next month as we gear up for the Fall Season, I have listed below the new and the revised changes we are making.

New Additions for Fall 2004 Season

Jet Racing: The jet class with be run after the unlimited events and will use some classic aircraft in the way of the US built Sabre and the Russian built Mig 15. This class will be run as an experimental class which mean we will crown a champion for the class but points gained for races will not count toward the overall championship.

T-6 Oval Racing: With the addition of the Jet to the Unlimited events we needed to add an event to the F1 events so we will be racing the T-6's on 3 mile F1 Oval. The T-6 class will also be an experimental class for the fall season.

Pond Racer: Yes we do plan to have the low poly racing version of the famous Pond Racer ready for the fall 2004 season. Expect to see at least one Pond Racer out there when the unlimiteds start.

Team Racing:After kicking around the idea we are going to start a Team Championship. I am still working out the details but I can tell you that the team championship will be totally voluntary.

Changes for the Fall 2004 Season

Timed Practice Sessions: In an effort to get as much racing done in a two hour sessions we will be changing from the heat race format to the timed practice session format. How does this work? Well its actually simple before we call the first race we will have a 20 minute practice session pilots will run timed hotlaps during practice. Once the practice is closed times will be submitted to the race organizer and they will set the field from there. Using this method we will only end up with two races a silver and a gold but we and run multiple classes now in a two hour block making it easier for pilots to get involved without making a huge time commitment.

Equalized Unlimiteds: Wombat and Maple One are currently working getting the Sea Fury and the Lightnings up to par with the Mustang and the Bearcat so we can have some closer races.

Upgraded F1: Work has already been done on the F1 to fix its prop problem and to take a little more guess work out of the setup of the F1. Maple One has also made the gear a bit stiffer to prevent the usual bouncing during landing.

Website upgrade: Over the next couple weeks as I get finished with a reformat of my work/racing system I will be upgrading the website and hopefullly adding some more organization making things a little easier to get to. I will also be opening a CafeExpress shop to sell VARO merchandise in order to pay the bills and possible offer some prizes for race champions.

Additions and clearifications to the rules page are also in the works and will be posted to the site pending approval of the VARO Race Committee.

Other News:
We are currently working out an exhibition race to be else on the FlightSim.com server. The guys over at Flightsim.com are interested in starting a team to race in VARO events. We are going to need all our pilots out there to put on the best race we can.

V-Con Space Prize to the Stars,Sponsored by Motis Industries
Maple One and I(Sryth) are currently working on an entry for this competition. Basically the competition entails the construction of a four man vehicle capable of reaching low earth orbit and then landing safely back to earth. More information on this project as it progresses. Since there is a cash prize involved with this project secrecy is the utmost consern we do not wish your our ideas and design to be "borrowed" by anyother team. If you would like to get involved with this exciting project please feel free to e-mail Sryth. We are currently looking for a test pilot and someone that is familiar with the freeware Orbiter Sim because I would like to put the vehicle to it as well.

RENO Unlimited Course fix
There is a pylon on the back side of the course that was places in error to fix this problem follow these instructions.

go to your FS/ADDON SCENERY/VARO/Unlimited-Jet Course/Scenery/ and then delete this file RENO_pylon06.bgl

That will get rid of the confusing pylon.
VARO Team Joins V-CON competition

As for 6/24/04 VARO has officialy registered a team for the V-CON contest. The constest is simple build a vehicle that can reach low earth orbit and return the crew of four back to earth safely. This venture is a VARO Air Racing sponsored project but it is also going to be a spinnoff to Sryth's Hangar in the way of a new VARO site. The Virtual Aerospace Reasearch Organization will be conducting the V-CON operations as well as any further aerospace projects. We are currently looking for a few good test pilots as well as skilled artists and aircraft builders to help us in this endeavor. Of course these projects will not take away from the excellent work being done at VARO Air Racing and we will continue to make to quality aircraft and racing scenery.

Anyone that is interested in working with us at Virtual AeroSpace Reaseach Org please feel free to send me and e-mail will your qualifications. If you are interested in being a test pilot please be certain that you are a very skilled and avid pilot because we are building vehicles to exacting specifications and need people willing to fly with the same exacting methods.

VARO News 061704, New Features, New Classes and Sryth Retires

Well the championships are upon us and we are looking a a close finish in both classes. We will crown the F1 champion this weekend and the Unlimited next weekend. With the season coming to a close I am starting to look toward next season and things are looking promissing. Here is a list of a few new features coming to VARO next season.

--New Race format featuring true qualifying and two classes a night racing.
--More courses and Better Course scenery to help fill the environment.
--Updated Unlimited Flight Models.
--Updated Transponder with Full Pylon Tracking as well as some more bells and whistles

And now for the big additions

The Pond Racer one of the most inovative designs to ever grace the pylons sadly it never reached its full potention but with the help of the actual designer of the plane we are rebuilding it. Should make for an excellent addition to the VARO Racer Family of aircraft

Rally Class racing, Still in the experimental stages but we will be working some test races into the schedule for this unique style of racing. The rally class with be very unique in the fact that its not set on a pylon course and it doesn not use standard lap counting procedures. Rally class races will be raced on a winding 20 to 30 mile course with left and right turns along with elevation changes. The races will be timed for 1 hour and the pilot with the most laps and the fastest time will win. Also new to air racing will be a mandatory pitstop to pick up fuel which will be needed with aircraft running flat out for an hour straight. The aircraft of choice for this class will be Sport Class racers such as the Lancair Legacy and The Varieze. These aircraft will be freeware built by some of the best aircraft designers on the net. Stay posted for more information about this exciting class.

Jet and T-6 racing. We will be running the F-86 and possible a mig in the Jet class. These classes will as the second race for the F1 and Unlimited events. Being new to the VARO schedule this first season will be a trial run to see if the interest is there for continued support.

Other News
Looking for Rally airports!
I am currently looking for a few good airports to setup rally courses at. I am not asking for much basically I am looking for airports with at lease 2 good runways ample parking space and some interesting terrain to wrap a course around. Any pilot that submits an airport that is selected will get a chance to help design the course as well as have there name included in the credits of the course. Please send any airport suggestions to Sryth.

Sryth Retires from Unlimited Racing
Finally I would like to say that Next Saturday will be my last Unlimited Race. I have had great fun but my most enjoyable class is F1 and I feel that the pilots we have in the Unlimted have a handle on things. I leave the unlimited class in order to devote more time the development side of VARO as well as spending time going things outside of VARO. I will be announcing the new Unlimited Race organizer as well as the Race Organizer for every class. Well with that said my loss is someone gain. I am offering my aircraft(the Red Bull #44) to any pilot that asks for it just send me an e-mail. I will only let a pilot that plans to be here for the long haul race it so be warned.

KMQJ F1 Race postponed
Due to a the bad weather on Sunday and the proceeding power problems and real life issues. I am going to post pone the F1 race to next Friday. Hopefully with the change we can see Skyguy in the F1. I apologize for any inconvenience but I just don't feel like I can have everything ready to go by Saturday. This change will however not effect the unlimited race on Saturday as well as the championships the week after.

5 Tornados hit Indianapolis on sunday, one passed a block from Sryth's house.

They weren't very big but a total of 11 hit central Indiana on Sunday causing a lot of damage. Luckly for me we only lost the top of our chimney and power for about 10 hours. Anyway with the "delay" things have kinda of gotten behind but I will have the standing from the last race posted soon. I would also have the course file for KMQJ online very soon, please be patient since its going to be close when the file is ready. I hope to have to up by wednesday so it can be tested and revised by Saturday.

Tuesday, May 25, 2004

KMSO Unlimited Race rescheduled for This Friday at 9pm est.

If we don't have the minimun number of pilots for this race it will be canceled. Pilots that do show up will recieve standard attendance points.

Notice to All Pilots!
Please DO NOT send any further e-mail to my current e-mail account unless you are working on a project for VARO. My e-mail is full of VARO to the point that it is starting to over flow. As I stated in the last VARO news e-mail please send me a message through the message board or if there is a problem post it in the board. This way it is easier to pass information to the rest of the pilots that may need the information. I will also be posting new messages in the message board in an effort to get away from relying on e-mail. Any further e-mails that are not related to urgent business or new pilot applications will be deleted from my e-mail as soon as they arrive.

Notice to all pilots!
If you haven't already read this article you should. Something is very wrong out in Reno.

The website also has a lot of other good airracing news articles.

Re-Organization
It has come to the point where I feel for VARO be be more productive that we need to clearly define the positions and expectations for those positions that VARO need to grow. These positions will take effect as they are filled. Applications will be accepted in the general section of the message board. These changes are not being made for any personal reasons I, Sryth, simply feel that VARO needs a strong group of pilots that are dedicated and willing to put for the effort to help VARO grow. I also feel that the group that runs the daily operation of VARO should be as small as possible. I do want to thank all pilots that have contributed to VARO your help is appreciated.

New Version of the Transponder on the beta test page!
The latest version is up for download. I haven't had a chance to change the actual page but the file is there and ready to be tested. I recommend that all pilots take a look at it because it will be the release verision as soon as I have a couple feature implemented. Check out the new section on the message board for the up to date documentation as well as a place to request features and post problems.

Please take the new version of transponder and beat it to death. I want to know when it breaks. In other words run as many races as you can on it without turning it off. Use the reset button. Try out all the options. And when it does break report what happened in the message board so I can see if I can prevent it from happening again.

VARO News week of April 26 2004

Well another week another VARO news. Racing was excellent on Saturday as five
of VARO's best battled it out at KDVT. I for one can say that all races were
very close but in the end Jimi came out on top with his first career Gold
victory. After the victory and due to the absence of Awolf from the race the
F1 point standings were shaken up a bit. Sryth is now in the lead with two
gold race finishes under his belt and Jimi and Maple One are not far behind.
This Saturday we will see the Unlimiteds take to the KDVT course. There
are a lot of pilots gunning for the top unlimited spot should make for some
excellent racing.

Important News

All this week I am going to conducting tests of new voice communication
software. During scheduled practices. I have all the candidates installed and
ready to test we just need to try them out. The candidates are:

BattleCom
http://www.battlecom.org/

Comm Center
http://www.randomsoftware.com/ccenter/index-en.html

Roger Wilco
http://rogerwilco.gamespy.com/

Another possibility is to stick with TS and simply log out when racing. It
seems to be working aside from the occassional lag we are seeing solid laps
from everyone including pilots on dial-up.

Scheduling news
I have been working out the fall season and it looks like we can have a total
of 3 seasons a year.

Spring:
April,May,June,

Fall:
August,September,October

Winter:
December,January,Febuary

This will give pilots 3 months a year off from racing as well as offer year
round racing. Also each season will have to have a minimum of 5 pilots in
order for the season to start. I also plan to add courses into the VARO
system and rotate them each season.

Development News
Transponder OPTIONAL beta should be up very soon. I am in the process of
coding in as much error traping as I possible can to prevent the "crash to
desktop" problems. The goal is to catch any errors that will cause a major
crash and handle them internally so that pilots are not forced to leave FS to
fix the problem. Once I have this code in place I will release the new
OPTIONAL Beta. Note, the current version will still be usable but will not be
available for download once I release the newer version.

VARO Racer Vol2 "Legends
Pond Racer is heading over to Maple One's shop today to have start the flight
model process. If anyone had any information on Pond Racer please forward the
information on to Maple One so that we can get a accurate flight model as a
basis for the Unlimited Flight Model.

Courses
Looks like we are going "down under" as least for a couple races. I have
started scouting some airports in Australia. Jimi has been kind enough to give
me a list of some good spots to go racing. If anyone one has any other
suggestions for courses I am always open. I am especially looking for courses
outside the US. Just make sure there is enough open area on one side of the
airport to put pylons down. It doens't have to be realistic but I don't want
to be flying to close to a large city

Boards
Lots of action on the VARO boards lately special in the Race Committee
section. Committee members stay posted. Proposals will turning into polls very
soon.

VARO Promotion
A very good idea was posted to the Race Committee. So I am going to implement
it. Here is the plan:

For every "original post" to a new flight sim or air racing related forum that
pilot will recieve 2 bonus points. By the word original I mean that the first
VARO pilot to post in that particular forum will get the points.

For every new pilot that results from the post the posting pilot will recieve
5 bonus points.

A link to each forum post must be put into the VARO Message Board so that I
can check it out. All points will be added toward the overall championship.

VARO Awards
Very soon the roster page will be filling up with color from the awards I am
working on. Each award will be represented by a graphic and will have a
description attached. Below is a list of awards that are planned

Fastest Lap
1 for each course, WIll be held until the lap is bested

Gold
Each gold participant will recieve this award

Silver
Each gold participant will recieve this award

Bronze
Each gold participant will recieve this award(when necessary)

Unlimited Champion
Winner of the Unlimited Series

F1 Champion
Winner of the F1 Series

Over All Champion

Manufacturer
Goes to pilot flying with that Manufacturer

Rookie of the Year

Important Notice to All Pilots!
I know there is a problem with the KDVT transponder file. I am going to work on it as soon as I get a chance. Also be aware that the pylon checking and the lap tracking is not connected as of yet. So if you are not getting pylon notices don't worry.

VARO News Week of 041904

I would give a race recap but I was so miffed at myself for having for running out of gas in the third heat race after smoking he competition. I have forgotten what else happened the rest of the evening. If you are looking for race results please visit the webpage all results are posted and are up to date.

Important News
Teamspeak is out! Yea we finally tracked down the lag and its in my prized Teamspeak, I know I defended Teamspeak and it is a superior product to most but when used with FlightSIm to race online it shows its tendency to hog bandwidth and as close and fast as we fly our aircraft it becomes an issues and Flightsim runs out of bandwidth. So what now, well last week we experimented with logging out of TS while a race was going on and then loggin back in after we had all landed. This seemed to work well with a couple exceptions. Maple One has also pointed me to a shareware product that may meet out needs be we need to test it. The last option which I dread is going back to Roger Wilco, I know its tried and true it works but the lack of options and the quality is suspect. I will keep everyone posted on what happens.

Other News
KDVT Files our out. I have an updated course out there along with the transponder file. If anyone has problems with the file please let me KNOW ASAP. So that means test the program before you come to race on saturday. We have been using the transponder a lot lately to verify close finishes or finishes where lag may have been an issue.

Development News
Transponder release version is rolling along, I do regret to say without some major coding I am NOT going to be able to put the file into the kneeboard at least in fs2002, Fs2004 uses an .html base so I may be able to get something working there but no luck in 2002 even after we played with the aircraft.cfg files. SO what does this mean well I am going to be building a pop up window that will have all the important info preformated to copy and past right into the flight sim chat window. As soon as I get this feature coded I will be releasing an OPTIONAL beta of the new interface. It works just like the old one when it comes to lap timing and counting the main difference is a slimmed down interface and hopefully it will be more memory efficent.

VARO Racer Vol 2 "Legends"
Well work as been slow since the season started but now that we are up and running and I know what the work load is going to be(I can put together a course in about a week now) I can get back to work on VOL 2 which will be release this summer for the Fall racing season. I currently have the Pond Racer pretty much ready to have its flight model built and then off to the paint shop. Tsunami has been settin gon my harddrive for a while all I have to do is add the gear and send it off to get painted and its flight model build. Red Barron is going to be a bit more difficult, since I don't have anything started on it it will probably take me a few weeks to get it around. So good news for the VARO Racer.

Courses
I am currently looking into building a couple more courses and add them to the schedule for our Fall season. I have the option to either extending the season or replacing a couple of existing courses. I will post a poll in the forum to get everyones decision.

Polls
I have started a new poll in the forum about online practices. Polls are kinda new to VARO but what I and the Race Committee are going to make decisions for VARO based on these polls. VARO is going to be run by the pilots as much as possible however be warned these polls are not official they are just a guide to help the Committee make decisions. For those of you in the committee I am going to be posting polls in the committee board that will be official rulings for the next racing season. Only committee members will have access to these polls and they will lead to definent changes in VARO. Expect those polls to start showing up soon. and VARO committee members if you do not know the access password to the forum please let me know and I will get that to you.

Well thats about it, hope to see everyone at KDVT this saturday for Round 2 of VARO Air Racing.

VARO News Week of 040504

Well the season is almost here and things are starting to fall into place. I would like to thank the VARO staff in advance for there dedication to getting VARO off the ground and back in the air.

I am going to be releasing a scenery patch for KMHV prior to Saturday. This patch will have the gate pylons as well as a moved starting grid and hangars. Patches for the other courses will come out during the F1 racing week at each course. I will also add the patches to the main download so that it will be easy to get all of them if you need to.

VARO Racer Volume 1: Skin package addon

I am going to be gathering up all the skins that have been made for the VARO Racer. If you have a skin and want it to be included please send the .bmp file to Sryth(reply to this e-mail), be sure to include your name and the aircraft the skin is for since all skins originate for nearly the same templates. Do understand that if a pilot does submit a skin he will recieve credit for the skin but the skin may be released with other versions of the VARO Racer Volume 1 package without notice. Also pilots must be considered "Certified" pilots in order to use their skins while flying in VARO Races, the right to use skins must be earned, also probationary pilots should use the pre-painted VARO Aircraft help to point out the "Rookie" pilots to the veteran pilots. Finally numbers on aircraft must not be numbers already in use and they must be positioned on the aircraft so they may be seen from the control tower during a race(look at the current skins for reference). Numbers already in use start at 1 and go to 30 for the time being. If a pilot would like to use a number that is already taken they may but a letter by there number(b,c,d, etc).

VARO F1
I know I have been saying for weeks now that it is coming ok now it is. I will be releasing an updated VARO F1 with a modified flight model(no more engine stalling).

Big announcement
VARO Racer Volume 2 "Legends"
3 aircraft that changed the face of air racing as we know it today. These aircraft were innovative in the design and implementaion. These aircraft are a tribute to their teams and the pilots that were lost with them.
The aircraft

Red Barron
A counter-rotating prop mustang that was far more than a normal mustang

Tsunami
2/3rd the size of a regular mustang completely homebuilt for speed.

Pond Racer
Probably the most radical designs to race in an Unlimited Race. The real Pond Racer used Nissan Automotive engines but they never put out the horsepower need to push the all composite built racer to the gold.

As usual these aircraft will have top notch flight models and well as the VARO "Raibow of Colors" skins. As well as having VARO Racing visual models.

Final Notice to all pilots
If you are a member of VARO and have NOT completed Pylon School you will not be allowed to race in the season until you have done so. In addition if you are a member and have not either posted the the message board or be in an online session you will be removed from the roster at the begining of the Season. If anyone needs to go through Pylon School and get checked out please reply to this e-mail and let me know when a good time is to complete your pylon school. Pylon school can be completed in aprox 20-30 minutes depending on the Pilots skill.

Final thanks
Big thanks go out to Maple One he has been doing a great job hosting TeamSpeak and occasionally the Flight Session. He has also done a top notch job on the VARO Racer Volume One flight model. Another big thanks to the pilots that show up every practice session you guys will end up leading this thing in the end.

Sryth's past couple days.

Well blame it on a food alergy, I didn't even know I had. It put me out of commission for a couple days. I apologize for missing the weekly update but things are moving along. On a positive note I was able to do some stuff this after noon. I added different pylon checking to the transponder, expect that update soon alone some texture fixes to the mustang and the bearcat. For some reason the wing textures were wrong so I fixed that and uploaded template .bmps to the website. If you want the reference images I used to build the airplanes go to www.warbirdaeropress.com look in there products section and then there should be an entry about scale drawings. Also with the fix the wing textures now look funny which I will fix soon. I am also going to get the F1 updated with a new texture added in the next day or so.

Notice to all pilots!
Any pilot on the roster that is not in probationary status that does not attend the next Pylon School this weekend will be removed from the roster. If there are pilots out there that wish to stay with VARO please e-mail Sryth with reasons why you cannot make the pylon school. If there is a time conflict please let me know, there are possibilites to change some times around but I need feedback from pilots before I am going to change our schedule. I also recomend that any pilot that has not logged onto to the VARO Race Server during an active session please do so this friday during practice so that we can fix any bugs you may have in your setup.

Saturday callout
Well it was kind of a bust didn't see as many people as I had hoped. Did see some regulars and some new faces. The lag bug reared its ugly head again, but after some reasearch I think I found the problem. I do need to test it however so tomorrow(3-2-04) if I could get as many people as possible to log into the racer server during practice time, I want to do a stress test and try some alternate configurations. If I have to we will go back to the way we use to have the servers setup which held 15+ without a problem.

Other news
Maple One is working on some better flight models for the VARO Racer. Performance will be pretty much the same the aircraft will be a little more friendly to land. Also Maple One's P-38 is going to be put into flight testing very soon.

VARO Racer Vol 2 sneak peak!
Check the photos page for a first look at and one of the aircraft in the upcoming VARO Race Vol 2 "Legends".

Things are coming together, Check the forums for an updated schedule very soon.

Practice/Filming Session with some snags.

After a good turnout for the first open session since VARO's Spring Seaseon was announced we did have some problems. The good news is after a few hours and a few reconnects and reboots we nailed down the problem and I am confident that things will run smooth from here on out. We also had a descent race with the new VARO Racer and I personally saw no frame rate spikes or loses. Since all is looking good I am going to focus my attention onto the transponder and clean up some issues with it. Expect a new version of the Transponder soon.

VARO Reborn
New Logo, New Features, More Racing

I would like to announce that VARO is back into the online air racing scene. Over the past few months we have been working on lots of
improvements that will making racing in FS2002 and FS2004 a lot easier and a whole lot more fun. For starters some of you may remember the VARO Racer project, a collection of racing aircraft currently seen at Reno every year. Well the first volume of the VARO Racer is complete and in flight testing now, it will be ready for racing in April. The other major advancement is the VARO Race Tracking System(VRTS) which
is a stand alone program designed to track lap times and eventualy pylon cuts as they happen during live racing. The VRTS is made up of essentially two parts the first is a very easy to use program called the Transponder which actaully does all the tracking. The second is the Receiver which is a server that recieves data from the transponder and then relays all race information back to the transponders. We are currently testing this software to work out any bugs and it will also be ready to go in april. Another project that we have been working on
is a better way or pilots and fans to watch races, after some experimentation we have created a set of flight files for each course that will give specators the best view to watch races from observer mode.

Do all these new features bring out the air racer in you? Interested in helping develop and test our aircraft and software? Just want to get out there and turn some fast laps around the plyons? Then sign up today we are looking for about twenty dedicated pilots to help bring VARO into the future of online air racing. We are accepting pilots that are primarly using FS2002, however upon request we can check you out in fs2004 our servers can support both in the same session and we are interested in testing out the effects on racing. To join VARO simply head to the join page and follow the instructions there.

For more information on VRTS and the VARO Racer Vol 1 head to the beta testing page for release dates as well as development information.
